I worked on Just Cause 4 the first year of its development as lead gameplay programmer. During that time, Defiant Studios was opened in New York City by Roland Lesterlin, the game director of Just Cause 3 and David Grijns, the former studio manager of Avalanche NYC. Both of them are my friends. And I got an opportunity to join them in their venture. Building a new game studio in New York City. Consequently, I had to take them up on the offer, or risk regretting it for the rest of my life.
Even though I was only part of the development of Just Cause 4 for a year, Avalanche Studios gave me credit as a gameplay programmer. It’s always nice to see your contribution to a game recognized. And I set the gameplay development on a good path early on in the process. What I believe had a positive impact down the road, as the game turned out really great!
